Situated on the hillside at between 450 and 497 metres of altitude, High Garden is one of the highest vineyards in Gibbston, Central Otago’s coolest sub-region. It has great exposure to long sunshine hours. During the critical ripening month of April, High Garden has sunshine for up to 90 minutes after sunrise before it reaches the bottom of the valley. The vineyard slopes down towards the north, allowing for the free draining of both air, which minimises frost risk, and water; although the vines are now dry land farmed.

The wine exhibits a beguiling, intense aroma of red primary fruits and dried herbs. This characteristic is unique in the Pinot world, identifying Gibbston immediately. With a deep purple scarlet colour the wine is rich with layers of fine grape tannins in support. The natural fine acids typical of Gibbston are present in the background, giving the wine balance. Fully ripe fruit with a high skin-to-juice ratio gives the wine a fine tannin structure. Capable of development over decades, the 24 High Garden, like all the great Pinots, is delicious now. This vintage further demonstrates the consistency of this warm and sunny, distinguished vineyard site.

Open the bottle just before service at 16 - 18 degrees Celcius.
