FAQs

What options do you have for tasting wines?

The most popular option at Kinross is our 45-minute wine tasting. These include tastings of five local wines, as well as the stories behind the labels, the history of winemaking in our region and the talented people who create it! We have a range of tastings that showcase beautiful Pinot Noir, white wine only, special cellared bottles and Valli classics.

(Please note that food is not served during these tastings. You can make a bistro booking before or after a tasting. Or, if you are keen to eat whilst exploring our wines, the below Flight of Fancy would be a great option.)

We also have a fun wine quiz called ‘Flight of Fancy’ which takes place in our Bistro and wine garden. This quiz lets you channel your inner sommelier (wine expert), answering a range of questions to identify for you a delicious wine flight of three wines for you to enjoy. This is a great option for people short on time or looking to eat while exploring our range of wines.

Do I need to book a wine tasting?

We highly recommend you book ahead for wine tastings where possible to avoid disappointment. Friday-Sunday we are usually very busy!

Do I need to book for dining for lunch or dinner?

We highly recommend pre-booking your table should you wish to dine with us, whether you are a casual visitor or an in-house guest. Our Bistro gets busy in weekends and peak seasons. Booking ahead allows us to plan ahead for hotel guests and cater for your needs the best way we can.

Can you explain your closing hours?

Our Bistro is open all day; for breakfasts, for snacks, lunches and afternoon snacks as well as evening takeaway dining. We have a boutique Cottages on-site, so many guests enjoy dining here while staying.

I want to hire bikes, can I do this with you?

Pre-booking at least 24 hours in advance is essential as we do not hold any bikes onsite. We work with the Kiwi owned and operated company Better by Bike, based in Arrowtown and pre-organizing your fun-filled biking day will allow you to make the most of the great bike trails in the region.

What is your pet policy?

We are very happy to welcome your dogs to enjoy the landscape here at Kinross. For hotel guests, we charge a $25 per night fee for additional cleaning. Should we receive any noise complaints or any damage to our property we reserve the right to charge a $200 cleaning fee as well as any replacements fees for damaged furniture or linen.

Do you offer transport from Queenstown?

Kinross does not offer a shuttle service; however we do work closely with local tour operators and so can help organise any group transport services. We highly recommend Arrowtown Taxis - (03) 395 9999.

How many guests can stay in each cottage room?

Our studio cottage rooms are suitable for maximum two adults and one child on a rollaway bed only. Additional guests (children or more than two adults) will require booking additional rooms. Should you require interconnecting rooms, please book two rooms and specify upon reservation.

I see you have a hot tub, what do I need to do if I want to use it?

Our outdoor hot tub is a great way to relax after exploring the region with a glass of local wine in hand. There are limited spots available each day and so we do recommend booking your preferred time in advance to avoid any disappointment.

It is cleaned and refilled regularly and is easily self-managed to be topped up to your preferred temperature during your 45-minute time slot.

What time is my complimentary in-house wine tasting? (For hotel guests)

Your complimentary wine tasting will take place in the evening, specific timings may change however will be around 4.30pm/5pm. Confirmed details of timings will be sent closer to your check in date. It’s super popular and a big reason why guests book with us, so make sure you arrive 5 minutes before start time and make the most of it!

Why do you have certain wines that are Wine Club accessible only?

We cellar a selection of special, older and rare vintages for the enjoyment of our Wine Club. Often these are small in quantity, or extremely hard to get hold of, or are perhaps some of the very last stock of a very special year for us or one of our wine partners. We save these for our Wine Club members to enjoy, yet offer all guests to Kinross a chance to sample these in some of our tasting sessions or bistro wine lists. If you’d like to know more about our Wine Club, the great discounts and inclusions our members receive, please email wine@kinross.nz.
