High Garden Vineyard

High Garden is a tiny producer on the Gibbston back road that focuses solely on single vineyard wine, particularly a beautiful Pinot Noir that delivers truthful terroir expression. The owner - vigneron and Master of Wine Robin Tedder - is a passionate supporter of Gibbston and someone who champions the prestige and value of Central Otago wine on the global stage.

Robin has been creating exceptional wine since 1993. He became a Master of Wine in 1997, a prestigious title that only 416 people in the world hold, 15 of them in New Zealand. Robin is the only Master of Wine in Central Otago, so it's a pleasure for us to welcome his wisdom (and sense of humour) to our team.

Situated at between 420 and 490 metres above sea level, High Garden is the highest vineyard in Gibbston, which is of course Central Otago’s coolest sub-region. It has great exposure to long sunshine hours due to its north-west aspect. During the critical ripening month of April High Garden has sunshine for up to 90 minutes more than other sites in the valley. The vineyard is on a sloping site, minimising frost risk. The soils are composed of schist rocks in glacial loess with organic matter brought down the mountainside above over thousands of years. The vineyard is dry farmed and Robin is content that irrigation is not required to produce the small, concentrated fruit that delivers this exceptional wine.

We are extremely proud to add Robin's wines to our cellar door and stand alongside him as he adds another woven layer to our sub-region's rich history.
