WHY? The species is the Brink

The Antipodean Albatross is facing a dramatic decline, with an estimated 2,300 birds dying each year, largely due to commercial fishing practices. Without urgent action, these magnificent birds could be extinct within five years.

Together, we can protect the Antipodean Albatross, a treasured taonga of Aotearoa New Zealand. These ocean wanderers are caught up in tuna fishing operations that threaten their survival.

By supporting this campaign, you’re helping shift industry practices and preserve our precious native species for future generations.

The Story Behind the Label

Artist Hannah Shand created the striking hand-drawn illustration featured on the Hawkshead Pinot Noir label, capturing the grace and rarity of the Antipodean Albatross. Her work inspires others to appreciate and protect Aotearoa’s unique wildlife.

Through this partnership with NZ Nature Fund, wine and wildlife come together, raising both awareness and vital funds.

Your contribution helps the NZ Nature Fund engage with the fishing industry to change the way they operate, promoting albatross-safe methods and preserving biodiversity.
