Vibrant, juicy and with an opulent core structure. Tuturi Pinot Noir 2021 is a debutant this year and showcases the potential of Alexandra to produce world class Pinot Noir. There is something special about Alexandra for Alan Brady, which explains his desire to further exploring this subregion of Central Otago.

First, one of his initial wines of the Wild Irishman label was crafted with fruit from Alexandra in 2006, which allowed him to discover the true potential of the southernmost wine growing region in the world (2006 was still drinking beautifully by 2021). Nose: Bright red fruit, stony/gravel, herbs, charred oak, baking spice, florals. Palate: Juicy, vibrant, fine grained tannin, strawberry, crunch red apple skin. Fine boned structure, tension, integrated acid- suits the palate. Refreshing and thirst quenching. Not austere. Earthy characters. Finishes fine and structured.

The 2021 Pinot Noir, Tuturi, takes its names from a prickly native bush which grows around the Wild Irishman vineyard, and the wines is anything but prickly. Silken and tender, this caresses the palate with its rich fruit sweetness and lifted, woody herbs. At this young stage, it is all red cherry fruit, violets and has the finest of tannin texture, reminiscent of chalky soluble aspirin.

On the finish, subtle festive spices creep up to join the primary fruit, leaving a scented finish that has a sense of ease. This is the first release and it is delectable. (93) Rebecca Gibb MW, vinous. com, April 2023
