The Behind the Vines Wine Experience offers an in-depth, behind-the-scenes journey through Kinross and the Gibbston landscape that shapes the wines in your glass. This is our most immersive experience for guests who want to move beyond the tasting bench and into the vineyard itself.

Led by our internationally trained Wine Advisors, this guided tour takes you through our site in Gibbston, where you’ll gain a first-hand understanding of how place influences flavour. Walk among the vines and learn about vine age, planting decisions, soils, elevation and the cool-climate conditions that define this high-altitude subregion of Central Otago. It’s an opportunity to see, feel and question the elements that ultimately translate into aroma, texture and balance in the wines you taste.

As the experience unfolds, you’ll explore how Central Otago’s diverse subregions express themselves differently, even within a relatively small geographical area. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a curated tasting of six carefully crafted wines, selected to highlight site, subregional character and winemaker intent. Expect thoughtful pacing, insight and storytelling that connects vineyard to glass in a meaningful way.

This is not a scripted or static tour. Each Behind the Vines experience is shaped by the season, the weather and what’s happening in the vineyard on the day, offering a more authentic and dynamic look at life among the vines.
